Zelenskyy hands the Ground Forces wheel to Sviatoslav Zayits

Original version ·

Another high-stakes military shake-up in Ukraine: out goes Shapovalov, in comes a battle-tested airborne veteran to run the entire ground army.

Running the Ground Forces of Ukraine during a full-scale war is basically the world's most exhausting managerial job, and the musical chairs continue. Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially signed off on replacing Hennadii Shapovalov after less than a year in the seat, tapping Sviatoslav Zayits to step up.

The new boss is no desk-bound bureaucrat: Zayits built his credentials as chief of staff for the 8th Air Assault Corps before taking charge of the 20th Army Corps just a few months back. Paratrooper discipline is clearly the flavor of the season as high command reorganizes frontlines alongside Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi.

Constant reshuffling at the top usually means either high expectations weren't met or the strategy just took another sharp turn.
