Zelenskyy Heads to Paris to Pitch Freya, Ukraine's Budget Patriot

Original version ·

Paris is hosting a massive meetup of the "coalition of the willing," and Zelenskyy is showing up with a domestic anti-ballistic system that wants to challenge the big leagues.

Our president is headed to Paris for talks with Macron, but the real highlight of the trip isn't the classic bilateral photo-op. It’s the debut of Freya, Ukraine's bid to shake up the global air defense market.

It’s a domestic anti-ballistic system designed to be a cheaper, mass-produced alternative to the legendary Patriot. Eight countries have already signed up for the coalition to get this project off the ground. Instead of waiting for years in line for Western defense contractors to build a handful of launchers, Ukraine is essentially saying: "Fine, we’ll build our own, just help us fund it."

Meanwhile, the "coalition of the willing" is gathering for a major summit. With Keir Starmer and Friedrich Merz co-chairing, over 25 heads of state will discuss how to choke off Russia’s shadow tanker fleet and plan actual, long-term security guarantees.

To top it all off, Ukrainian troops will march in the Bastille Day parade on July 14, taking the maximum spot allowed for foreign partners.

Building a custom air defense network because the global market is out of stock is the most Ukrainian solution possible.
