Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant hits blackout again, running on diesel
Europe's biggest nuclear plant is once again completely cut off from external power, keeping its reactors cool with emergency generators.
The "Ferrosplavna" power line connecting the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to Ukraine's power grid suddenly disconnected. As a result, the entire station had to switch to emergency diesel generators to keep the reactor cooling systems alive.
The main 750 kV line was recently repaired, but substation damage means it still cannot be energized. So the facility remains in survival mode, running on local generators while Russian forces occupy the grounds.
Keeping six nuclear reactors chilled on diesel fuel in an active war zone is essentially high-stakes roulette with uranium.
