Zaporizhzhia NPP suffered another blackout and ran on emergency diesels
Running Europe's largest nuclear power plant on back-up diesel generators is turning into a terrifyingly routine occurrence.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost external power once again, forcing the entire facility to rely on emergency diesel generators for about an hour before grid power was restored.
While an hour might sound brief, the pattern behind it is chilling. This marked the 24th full blackout at the facility since Russian forces occupied it, and half of all those blackouts occurred in recent months alone. A nearly identical blackout happened just days earlier.
Relying on diesel generators to cool critical systems at a giant atomic plant is effectively playing Russian roulette with radiation safety on a continental scale.
Emergency diesel fuel remains the fragile line standing between stability and a massive nuclear incident in Europe.
