Remembering Yurii Pyvovarov: The Engineer Who Chose the Frontline
Some people are built different. Yurii, a guy who just wanted to build things, ended up becoming one of the most respected scouts in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Yurii Pyvovarov, known to his brothers-in-arms as Bers, wasn't supposed to be a career soldier. He was a kid from Donbas who loved engineering and reading history. When the war started in 2014, he didn't run; he pivoted, moving his life and eventually joining the 24th Mechanized Brigade.
After the full-scale invasion, he didn't sit out. He went straight to the 95th Air Assault Brigade. He earned the Knight's Cross and the Gold Cross not by luck, but by being the kind of leader who looked after his unit and donated his own money to the cause. Even with a plan to finish his degree and join the Security Service of Ukraine, he ended up in the thick of it in the Kursk region, where he made the ultimate sacrifice.
It’s the quiet ones who had the biggest plans for a peaceful future that hurt the most to lose. His absence is a hole in the world that can't be filled by medals.
