US to mass-produce Ukrainian Magura sea drones on American soil
Remember when Ukraine had no real navy and started sinking warships with remote jet skis? The Pentagon was paying attention.
Ukrainian tech outfit Uforce and US boat builder ReconCraft signed a deal to produce hundreds, potentially thousands, of Magura naval drones per year at facilities in Oregon and South Carolina.
The US military spent decades building multi-billion-dollar destroyers, only to realize that firing million-dollar missiles at cheap incoming threats burns through budgets fast. After watching Ukraine turn the Black Sea into a no-go zone for warships and testing these sea drones in recent Pacific drills, the Pentagon decided to license proven Ukrainian combat hardware for its own armed forces.
These remote-controlled explosive boats carry 770 kilograms of payload over 500 kilometers, launch aerial drones, and hunt submarines, all for under $500,000 a unit. Now American assembly lines are setting up to pump them out at scale.
Reverse lend-lease officially became a geopolitical reality.
