The UN finally confirms 129 Ukrainian POW executions since 2022

Original version ·

It only took years of deep concern and endless paper-shuffling, but international monitors have officially noticed what we’ve been screaming about since day one.

The UN human rights mission just dropped a report confirming that Russian forces have executed at least 129 Ukrainian prisoners of war since the full-scale invasion started. To get to this number, their investigators conducted nearly two thousand interviews and visited dozens of sites.

It is a terrifyingly conservative estimate. While our human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets put the number at over 300 months ago, the UN's ultra-strict verification process is notoriously slow. They did, however, flag a massive spike recently, documenting 37 fresh executions in just a short window between late 2025 and early 2026.

To nobody’s surprise, almost every single freed Ukrainian POW they interviewed reported being systematically tortured or abused. The report also details widespread sexual violence and forced mobilization in the occupied territories.

One wonders how many more reports must be filed and archived in comfortable Geneva offices before "never again" actually means doing something about it.

only 129? are they blind? it's easily three times that if you count all the videos they proudly post on telegram

Strict verification takes time guys, if they put unverified info the russians would use it to dismiss the whole report. still painful to read though.
