Ukrainian drones hit Russian oil refineries nearly 200 times
While someone in Moscow is busy drawing another thousand "intercepted" drones on their whiteboard, Russian oil refineries are quietly turning into campfire sites. Here is how Ukraine is dismantling their fuel industry, one drone at a time.
According to a fresh analysis by the Financial Times, Ukrainian long-range drones have hit Russian oil refineries at least 194 times since the start of 2026. That is an elevenfold increase compared to the same period last year. May alone was a wild party with 16 successful hits.
The results of this marathon are spectacular. Currently, almost 43% of Russia's total oil refining capacity is out of order. The world's biggest gas station is now experiencing a massive fuel crisis and has to import gasoline from Belarus. Yes, Belarus.
Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense is doing some heavy mental gymnastics. They claim they intercepted nearly 64,000 Ukrainian drones in just six months. If you believe their math, Ukraine apparently produces more drones than the entire planet does microchips, and Russia's air defense is a flawless invisible dome. Sadly for them, burning oil depots are quite visible from space.
It turns out that having the world's largest gas station is only useful if someone hasn't lost the keys to the fire extinguisher.
