Ukrainian Drones Knock Out Nearly Half of Russia's Oil Power

Original version ·

Turns out long-range sanctions delivered by drones work a lot faster than paperwork in Brussels.

Ukrainian drones have effectively crippled nearly half of Russia's nominal oil refining capacity, triggering their worst gas station nightmare since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Satellite photos analyzed by Financial Times reveal that Russian repair crews are moving at a glacial pace. A month after a strike on a refinery near Moscow, damaged equipment and charred tank lids are still sitting exactly where they fell.

Ukrainians are deliberately targeting the most irreplaceable Soviet-era components, such as specialized salt and water removal units. Hitting just one of these crucial towers in Omsk—a whopping 2,500 kilometers from the border—turns an entire multi-billion-dollar complex into a useless industrial statue.

Thermal imaging data shows that activity at targeted refineries plummets instantly after an impact and stays paralyzed for well over a year.

Petrol-rich statehood reaches peak irony when the world's self-proclaimed oil giant struggles to refuel its own tractors.
