Drones Took Out Russia’s 5,000 km Murmansk-BN EW System
Russian electronic warfare was supposed to jam radio signals across half the continent, but it could not protect itself from Ukrainian drones in Crimea.
Russia spent years hyping up its Murmansk-BN shortwave electronic warfare system. The specs sounded terrifying on paper: a range of up to 5,000 kilometers, supposedly built to blind and jam military communications across entire regions.
Ukrainian intelligence operators tracked the unit down near Cape Fiolent in occupied Crimea and sent strike drones directly into it. The 5,000-kilometer super-jammer failed to block drones flying directly toward it.
Bragging about continent-spanning range means very little when an antenna cannot handle what is right above it.
