Ukraine Is Combat-Testing 4 Jet Interceptors to Hunt Fast Drones
Pickup trucks with machine guns worked great against slow flying lawnmowers, but catching a 500 km/h drone at 3 km altitude requires something with a jet engine.
According to defense tech advisor Serhii Beskrestnov (aka Flash), Ukraine is currently flight-testing at least four different jet-powered interceptor drones directly in combat conditions.
The tech race escalated quickly: once Russian strike drones swapped propeller engines for jet turbines and started flying between 300 and 500 km/h, mobile ground teams could no longer intercept them. At the same time, expending massive, multimillion-dollar surface-to-air missiles on cheap drones is simply not sustainable.
The Ukrainian counter is domestic interceptors engineered to hit around 600 km/h, effectively hunting down incoming targets in mid-air.
Air defense has quietly transitioned into unmanned, high-speed robot dogfights at 600 kilometers per hour.
