Protests for Fedorov and against Syrskyi hit day 5
So, our government thought they could just quietly swap some top military seats and everyone would go home to watch Netflix. Well, absolutely not. People are on the streets across the entire country, and they are bringing pizza.
Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Ternopil — you name it. For five days straight, Ukrainians have been out there protesting against the firing of Mykhailo Fedorov from the Ministry of Defense and demanding that Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi pack his bags too.
It is quite a scene. In Mykolaiv, people are walking down the main street with their dogs. In Chernivtsi, locals are literally bringing the protesters hot tea, coffee, and fresh pizza. Even people in Kherson, who can't easily protest because of constant Russian drone strikes, managed to get their message to the streets of Ternopil via handwritten cardboard signs.
The slogans are a wild mix of classic revolution vibes, "Chervona Ruta" sing-alongs, and direct demands: "swap prisoners of war, not Fedorov." Meanwhile, the head of military intelligence Kyrylo Budanov tried to play the peacemaker, basically telling everyone to calm down and promising that "the position of society has been heard."
It's always cute when officials say they "hear" the public, but usually that just means they've turned up the volume on their office TVs.
