Zelenskyy orders secret files on Volhynia opened

Original version ·

Trying to smooth things over with Poland, Zelenskyy just greenlit the full disclosure of sensitive historical archives.

It looks like Kyiv is making a serious move to clear the air with Warsaw. After a top-level meeting on foreign policy, Volodymyr Zelenskyy Zelenskyy announced that all SBU and foreign intelligence archives concerning the tragic events in Volhynia will be opened to the public.

It is not just about the dusty files. The authorities are also fast-tracking permits for exhumation work and giving the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory more muscle to handle the history research. Basically, the goal is to shift from historical bickering to actual cooperation on the ground.

Transparency is usually a good look, but opening century-old wounds in the middle of an active existential war is a bold, high-stakes gamble for regional stability.

Finally some transparency, about time we stopped hiding the past.
+4 solidA rare moment of optimism, though I suspect the archives will be as dusty as the user's sense of humor
