Ukraine Offers Deal: Stop Hitting Our Power, We Stop Burning Your Refineries
Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a pretty straightforward offer: keep your hands off our lights, and your fuel plants won't explode.
For months, western allies have been quietly sweating over global fuel prices while Ukrainian drones casually paid visits to Russian oil infrastructure. Now, Zelenskyy laid out the terms plainly on Facebook: Ukraine will stop hitting Russian oil refineries the second Russia stops bombing Ukrainian energy.
It turns out de-escalation actually requires two sides. Reports surfaced earlier that Trump was allegedly pushing Ukraine to stop the refinery strikes unconditionally, which went down about as well as you would expect. Ukraine countered with simple math: if Ukrainian homes don't get electricity, Russian oil tanks don't get to stay in one piece.
Any mutual deal would need rock-solid guarantees, because taking Putin at his word on ceasefires has a historical success rate hovering right around zero.
Nothing motivates a sudden appreciation for energy stability quite like watching half a country's diesel supply go up in smoke.
