Ukraine's Long Neptune Just Erased Half a Dozen Su-34 Bombers in Russia
If anyone wondered what the upgraded homebrewed cruise missile was up to, it just decided to visit a Russian tarmac and wipe out a whole strike wing before breakfast.
The recipe for a loud morning in Voronezh apparently involves domestic engineering and very poor air defense. Zelenskyy confirmed that the Ukrainian military gave the upgraded Long Neptune a real field test, and the scorecard is neat: four Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers completely vaporized, and two more badly dinged up at the Borisoglebsk airfield.
These were not sitting pretty in deep storage. They were fueled, loaded with glide bombs, and queued up to strike Ukrainian towns. Instead, they caught a Ukrainian-made missile right where they parked. Meanwhile, drone launch hubs in Oryol and an unlucky target in the Black Sea took hits on the very same night.
Parking multi-million dollar air assets tightly clustered within missile range of the country being attacked remains one of modern military history's boldest strategic gambles.
