Ukraine needs 2.6M new workers by 2036, but coders aren't on top
Official government forecasts show Ukraine facing a massive worker shortage, but the future belongs to builders and engineers, not remote devs.
Serhii Babak from the Ukrainian parliament shared an economic forecast showing what the labor market will look like in a decade. The country will need 2.6 million new workers, and the biggest demand will be for construction workers, engineers, and machine operators.
Construction alone is set to double its workforce to over 1.2 million people to rebuild destroyed infrastructure. On the flip side, IT sector employment is projected to stay completely flat or even slightly shrink. Because of this, the state is overhauling university funding quotas to train people for physical technical needs rather than popular soft-skill degrees.
Rebuilding a nation apparently takes concrete, steel, and actual tools instead of another mobile delivery app.
