300k for infantry: Zelenskyy announces major military pay bump for June

Original version ·

The government finally realized that motivation works better when it is backed by a solid pile of cash.

So, Zelenskyy just dropped some heavy news: starting this June, first-line infantrymen are set to make an average of 300,000 UAH. Even those in the rear will get a minimum of 30,000 UAH.

They are also introducing new contracts with fixed terms of 10, 14, or 24 months, along with actual, guaranteed deferments. No more endless loop without an end date. Plus, they are raising pay for combat commanders to keep experienced leaders around, and making it easier for foreign volunteers to sign up.

The government is finally trying to treat military service like a highly-paid, structured job with clear terms instead of just an endless duty. Let's see if the defense ministry bureaucracy actually lets this run smoothly.

It turns out money can be found when the alternative is losing the country.
