Gdansk delivers: Ukraine secures €1.5 billion for roads, homes, and trains
The big recovery party in Poland just wrapped up, and the Ukrainian delegation is flying home with some very heavy pockets.
We just scored over €1.5 billion at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk. It's not just a giant pile of abstract "aid" — the funds are actually broken down into things that are desperately needed right now.
The biggest chunk, over half a billion euros, is going straight into municipal infrastructure. Another €351 million is earmarked for housing programs, including compensations for destroyed homes and veteran mortgages. They even carved out some cash for roads (€149 million) and water systems.
Our beloved Ukrzaliznytsia is also getting a slice of the pie: about $18 million for new projects and another €8.5 million to protect rail infrastructure from being targeted. It turns out when 9,000 people gather in Poland to talk about rebuilding, some real checks actually get signed.
Now comes the truly legendary Ukrainian challenge: spending €1.5 billion on actual pipes and asphalt without a single euro magically transforming into a suburban villa.
