Ukraine’s massive energy sprint: 1.5GW of new power on the table
Denys Shmyhal just dropped the news on a massive plan to beef up the grid exactly where it hurts the most.
The government is hunting for builders to construct 1.5GW of flexible gas-powered generation. The goal is simple: put power plants directly into the regions that are currently screaming for electricity, like Kharkiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Odesa, and Kyiv.
The catch? These plants need to be fast and tough. We are talking about second-level anti-drone protection as a mandatory requirement. The state is essentially promising to cover the price gaps during peak hours to make the math work for investors, plus they are working on a mechanism to insure against the obvious war risks.
It’s a race to build decentralized power before the next cold snap hits, betting that private money will show up if the government promises to hold the umbrella.
