46 drownings in Ukraine in one week, including 19 children

Original version ·

Summer swimming season in Ukraine has turned into a grim weekly report.

In just seven days, water claimed 46 lives across the country. What makes this truly heartbreaking is that 19 of those victims were children who went for a swim and never came back.

In Chernivtsi region, rescuers had to pull an adult and two kids from the Dniester river at once. Most of these cases come down to the exact same story: unmonitored swimming spots, missing adult supervision, and a single minute of carelessness that turns fatal.

Water does not give second chances, yet people keep treating wild rivers like calm backyard pools.
