Ukrainian Drones Just Smoked a Rare Russian Su-33 Jet in Anapa

Original version ·

Carrier jets are notoriously hard to replace when your only aircraft carrier is already a smoking scrap heap in dry dock.

Russia does not have many naval fighter jets left, mainly because their solitary aircraft carrier has spent years catching fire in maintenance docks. That did not stop Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces from tracking down a rare Su-33 carrier-based fighter sitting at an airfield in Anapa and blowing it up.

Drone commander Robert "Madyar" Brovdi confirmed the strike also wiped out an Mi-8 helicopter and two high-end radar stations protecting the skies near Gelendzhik. Meanwhile, over at the naval base in Novorossiysk, another wave of explosive drones paid a visit to several Russian missile boats.

Losing expensive aviation on a random resort runway while trying to hide them from sea drones is a special brand of logistics genius.
