153 drones in one night: Ukraine downs 119, facing nearly a hundred jet swarms
Another quiet night shattered because someone decided to strap actual jet engines to cheap suicide drones and launch 153 of them at once.
This wasn't just the usual lawnmower soundtrack over sleeping cities. The attack included 92 jet-powered Shahed drones, mixed with low-budget decoys literally named Parodiya and plywood Gerbera crafts designed specifically to confuse radars and burn up defense missiles.
Despite the high-speed chaos, Ukrainian air defense and electronic warfare brought down or jammed 119 drones across multiple regions using everything from fighter jets and missile systems to mobile pickup trucks with machine guns. 15 hit locations were recorded along with falling debris at nine others, but the scheme to crush the airspace with high-speed decoys failed to deliver the total blackout intended.
Bolting expensive jet turbines onto disposable flying scrap is certainly an ambitious military doctrine for an economy running out of butter.
