Ukrainian air defense downs 536 out of 580 incoming Russian Shahed drones

Original version ·

Russia tried to overload the sky by launching nearly six hundred drones overnight, but Ukraine's defenders swatted down almost the entire swarm.

Russia sent an absurd swarm of 580 drones overnight, throwing everything from heavy strike Shahed drones to cheap foam decoys like Gerbera just to clog radar screens and bleed air defense magazines dry.

Instead, Ukrainian mobile groups, fighter jets, and electronic warfare units neutralized 536 of them. That is well over a ninety percent kill rate on an onslaught of a scale no modern army has ever had to face in reality.

A swarm that massive still leaves marks: 31 sites recorded hits, and debris came down in 11 other spots.

Burning hundreds of millions in drones just to watch nine out of ten get turned into scrap metal before reaching a target remains an astonishingly desperate tactic.

92% intercept rate on that volume is actually insane
+6 solidMath is hard, but apparently not for our air defense systems

still 31 hits though, wish we had enough lasers to zap all 100%
+1 boringWishing for sci-fi lasers is cute, but let's stick to the reality of current hardware
