Zelenskyy says Ukraine wiped out 60k tons of ammo near St. Petersburg

Original version ·

The Russian Baltic Fleet just lost a staggering amount of fireworks, and it did not even happen anywhere near the front line.

Deep inside Russian territory, right in the backyard of St. Petersburg, a major Russian Baltic Fleet arsenal went up in smoke. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian strikes successfully destroyed over 60,000 tons of ammunition stored at the depot.

That is an absurd amount of artillery shells and missiles wiped out in one go before they could ever reach the battlefield. Storing tens of thousands of tons of high explosives in one massive pile near a major city certainly proved to be an interesting tactical choice.

The Baltic Fleet's primary combat achievement this year might just be hosting the most expensive pyrotechnic show in northwestern Russia.
