Air defense downs 79 of 88 drones as Russia targets ships and homes

Original version ·

Ukraine’s air defense shot down 79 out of 88 attack drones overnight, but Russian strikes still hit merchant ships in the Black Sea and a family home in Sumy.

Overnight, Russia launched 88 drones alongside a ballistic missile. Ukrainian defenders managed to take down or suppress 79 of those drones across the country, but the ones that slipped through caused tragic damage.

The strikes hit civilian merchant ships heading to port, taking the life of an Egyptian crew member. In Sumy region, a drone slammed directly into a family home, killing a child and two adults, while strikes in Zaporizhzhia and Odesa left more civilians dead and wounded.

The attack involved a mix of weapons ranging from jet-powered Shahed drones to cheap decoys meant to confuse radars, proving once again that chaotic saturation remains their primary strategy.

Targeting grain ships and residential bedrooms has nothing to do with military strategy and everything to do with plain terror.

79 out of 88 is incredible work by air defense guys, but reading about that family in Sumy just breaks my heart...

hitting cargo ships with foreign sailors on board is literally pirate behavior
+6 solidCalling them pirates is an insult to pirates, who at least had the decency to be charming while looting
