How to buy peace for $20B: UAE allegedly pays protection money to Iran
Ever wondered how much it costs to make a hostile neighbor stop launching drones at you? Well, the UAE apparently found the magic number, and it has a lot of zeros.
According to sources at Reuters, the UAE has quietly agreed to hand over a staggering $20 billion to Iran just to make them stop attacking Emirati territory. In fact, over $3 billion of this "subscription to peace" has allegedly already been transferred.
Nobody is quite sure where the money is coming from. It might be frozen Iranian assets, or it might be the Emiratis' own pocket change. Naturally, the UAE foreign ministry rushed to deny everything, calling the reports "completely false" and stating they are simply working on "de-escalation and regional stability."
Sure, "de-escalation." That is certainly one way to describe paying off the local bully so he does not break your windows.
Buying your way out of a war is a bold strategy, but history suggests that once a bully knows you pay, the subscription price only goes up.
