Mykola Tyshchenko hits the jackpot: bail set at 10 million UAH
The court has decided that 10 million hryvnias is the price for Mykola Tyshchenko to keep his freedom while facing some heavy charges.
So, the High Anti-Corruption Court finally dropped the hammer on Mykola Tyshchenko. Well, a soft hammer. He's looking at a 10 million UAH bail tag for his alleged involvement in a classic "call center" shake-down scheme. He reportedly asked for over a million dollars from someone he thought was in the racket, promising to pull strings in exchange for protection.
The prosecutors wanted 19 million, but the judge settled for less. Besides the cash, he has to hand over his passports and strap on an electronic ankle monitor. Not exactly the best way to spend the summer, considering he's already tangled up in a separate mess involving the alleged beating and unlawful detention of a former soldier in Dnipro.
A guy who once famously went to Thailand for a "meeting with voters" is now basically stuck under house arrest rules. The most hilarious part? Five of his fellow MPs actually tried to take him into their personal custody. Apparently, they really wanted to vouch for him.
