Tusk calls Poland-Ukraine medal drama a strategic error
When politicians start returning state medals via regular mail, diplomacy has entered a whole new era.
The president of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, decided to strip Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Poland's highest state distinction, the Order of the White Eagle. Instead of getting bogged down in statements, Zelenskyy simply shipped the medal right back by post.
That kicked off a chain reaction, with multiple Ukrainian officials and former presidents turning down or returning their own Polish honors in solidarity. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stepped in on X to warn that this escalation is a major strategic mistake that only serves Moscow.
Diplomacy by registered mail is certainly one way to set political boundaries.
