Trump Wants the Patriarch of Jerusalem to Mediate Peace

Original version ·

Because when normal diplomacy fails, you obviously call in a 2,000-year-old church brand. Donald Trump is apparently eyeing Patriarch Theophilos III to broker talks between Ukraine and Russia.

This is not a drill. Trump reportedly sat down for a 40-minute chat with Patriarch Theophilos III, and now his team is looking at him as the guy to bring Zelensky and Putin to the table. The plan is to use a religious leader who is completely detached from secular politics, hoping his moral authority will somehow work where international law completely failed.

To make it even wilder, the Patriarch is scheduled to meet Putin shortly. He does have some track record—he helped get an Israeli citizen out of a Russian prison once—but jumping from a local consular issue to stopping the biggest war in Europe since WWII is quite a promotion.

Meanwhile, Zelensky just sent an open letter asking Putin for a direct meeting, and Trump called it a "very good" idea. So now we are looking at a potential peace summit mediated by a man who wears a golden crown and lives in the Holy Sepulchre.

Geopolitics has officially entered its biblical era, and the main hope for peace apparently relies on holy water and divine intervention.
