Tanker bound for Ukraine hit right off the coast of Romania

Original version ·

A gas tanker sailing from Egypt to Ukraine was struck just 40 km off the Romanian shore, because the Black Sea apparently has zero chill left.

A commercial gas carrier, LPG Gas Lisbon, was cruising through the Black Sea on its way to Ukraine when an attack hit it roughly 20 nautical miles off the coast of Romania.

It happened outside territorial waters, but close enough that Romanian rescue teams had to rush out, pull crew members out of danger, and send a tugboat so an abandoned tanker wouldn't drift aimlessly across shipping lanes. Three crew members were injured, and Romanian authorities stated the strike is almost certainly tied to Russia's ongoing war.

Between Shahed drones crashing into border villages and commercial freighters catching explosions just over the horizon, eastern NATO borders keep treating the front line like background noise until the smoke drifts into view.
