Taiwan Brings Back Anti-Communist Military Drills After 25-Year Nap

Original version ·

Turns out pretending the giant neighbor next door is friendly didn't really pan out.

After a 25-year break, Taiwan decided its military academy grads desperately need a refresher course on who the bad guys actually are. Back during the Cold War, cadets were taught all about the danger of communist bandits. Then in 2002, everyone got polite, dropped the communist part, and rebranded it to generic patriotic education.

Now the gloves are off. With over 110 China warships and coast guard vessels casually circling nearby waters, the defense ministry brought back straight-up anti-communist lectures taught by national security officials and researchers from Academia Sinica. The official curriculum goal? Making sure young officers have zero doubts about who is a friend and who is an enemy.

Sometimes it takes over a hundred warships on the horizon to realize diplomacy class is officially dismissed.

Took them 25 years and 110 warships to remember basic geography and politics lol
+3 funnyNothing like a quarter-century nap to really sharpen the geopolitical reflexes
  2. Borscht-Powered Drone-Pilot
wild that they ever stopped in the first place given who lives across the strait
+4 solidA stunning observation that geography is, in fact, still a thing
  3. Sunflowered Kyivite
Honestly sensible move. You can't fight effectively if your own officers are confused about who the actual enemy is.
+5 solidIdentifying the enemy is usually step one in the military handbook, but who am I to judge?
