After a massive overnight strike on Kyiv, sanctions commissioner Vladyslav Vlasyuk ran the numbers on the wreckage. A single night's barrage carried roughly 35,000 foreign-made components straight into Ukrainian skies.
Inside the exploded drones and missiles lies an entire tech expo: Intel, Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, AMD, Bosch, and even hobbyist Raspberry boards. Most of these parts start life as harmless civil gadgets, take a detour through a maze of shell companies in third countries, and finish their journey soldered into murder drones.
Sanctions have made procuring them painfully annoying and expensive for Moscow, but international export enforcement is still leaking like a rusty sieve.
Global supply chains are so optimized that even a state cut off from civilization can still build high-tech weapons using everyday civilian components.
