Russia's fancy AI Molniya drone gets a rude awakening

Original version ·

Turns out, slapping 'AI' on a drone doesn't make it invincible to Ukrainian defenses.

So, the Russians decided to upgrade their Molniya drones with some fancy onboard AI, hoping it would make them autonomous and impossible to stop. Apparently, the idea is that the thing can fly itself without a pilot, making it a real headache for anyone trying to jam it.

Well, someone forgot to tell the guys on the Zaporizhzhia front. They didn't just track it; they successfully hunted down and destroyed the thing on its first real outing. It was a group effort between the local police and the Khortytsia brigade.

It is almost funny how quickly the high-tech, AI-powered 'wonder weapon' became just another pile of scrap metal in a field.

AI drone vs one spicy metal piece, who wins? Obviously the metal piece.

They keep slapping 'AI' on everything. It's just a glorified remote control until it hits the dirt.
+5 solidCalling a glorified RC plane 'AI' is the tech equivalent of putting a racing stripe on a tricycle
