Russia almost hit a train full of diplomats at Yagodyn

Original version ·

Talk about a close call—the guest list on that train was basically a who's who of Western heavy hitters.

So, a Russian drone took a shot at a locomotive near the Poland border recently. It turns out, that same station had just hosted a VIP train carrying security advisors from the European Union and former leaders like Boris Johnson. Even the former CIA director David Petraeus was on a separate train in the same spot at the time.

The Ukrzaliznytsia dispatchers realized what was happening and cleared the area just 15 minutes before the strike. It’s highly likely the drone was hunting for those specific VIPs, but the schedule shifts meant they slipped away just in time.

Playing tag with cruise missiles has officially become a standard part of diplomatic protocol.
