Russia finally releases severely wounded Ukrainian prisoners
For the first time, Russia has actually handed over a group of 31 badly wounded soldiers, breaking their own grim pattern of only swapping healthy captives.
Usually, when we talk about prisoner swaps, it’s just a numbers game. This time, Dmytro Lubinets, our human rights ombudsman, managed to get 31 guys back who were in critical condition. For the first time, the other side actually agreed to prioritize the severely wounded.
These men were whisked straight into ambulances the moment they stepped across the line. It's a small victory, but god, it’s a relief. It’s also interesting that Russia is finally talking about letting observers monitor their prison camps on a system-wide basis. We’ve been doing that for ages, but maybe they’re finally feeling the pressure to stop the systemic abuse.
It’s hard to call it progress when you know what they went through, but at least these guys are finally getting real medical help.
