Talking Peace, Launching Ballistics: Russia Hammers 12 Regions in Ukraine

Original version ·

Whenever people talk about diplomatic progress, the other side seems to celebrate by prepping three straight waves of ballistic missiles for the night.

Overnight, Russian forces struck 12 Ukrainian regions, raining down 21 ballistic missiles on Kyiv alone.

The hit list hit a bizarrely tragic bingo card: ordinary apartment blocks, rail and metro hubs, a monastery, and an Epicentr home improvement hypermarket. Apparently, cordless drills and bulk drywall pose an existential threat that requires heavy rocketry to neutralize.

As Volodymyr Zelenskyy pointed out, this massive strike arrived virtually immediately after the latest round of talks. It is essentially a diplomatic memo written entirely in high explosives.

Nothing underscores the absurdity of expecting good-faith negotiations quite like twenty-one ballistic missiles aimed at hardware stores and metro stations.
