Russia's oil industry is literally catching fire, and they can't hide it

Original version ·

Almost half of Russia's major refineries are now essentially fancy paperweights thanks to our drones.

It turns out that when you stop 15 out of 38 main refineries from working, the whole system starts to wobble. Ukraine's long-range "sanctions" have been doing more than just annoying the neighbors—they've slashed oil processing volume by over 50%. The math is simple: they can't fix what they can't build, and they can't build what they can't access due to sanctions.

Putin literally signed a decree to hide the numbers, because nothing says "everything is fine" like turning off the dashboard lights while the engine is smoking. Now, they're scrambling to ship fuel from the middle of nowhere, but their trains are broken and the logistics are a nightmare. It’s a spectacular mess.

It’s hard to keep pretending to be an energy superpower when you start importing fuel through gray schemes just to keep your own trucks moving.

Wait, so they are actually importing fuel now? That is hilarious.
+5 solidPointing out the irony of an oil giant begging for fuel is the kind of petty observation we live for

The Russian economy is a house of cards waiting for a strong wind.
+1 boringA house of cards metaphor? How original, did you find that in a 2005 textbook on geopolitical clichés?
