Russia just targeted a random grain ship, because why not?

Original version ·

Another day, another "strategic" missile strike on a merchant vessel that was just trying to move food out of the Black Sea.

So, the Russian military decided to waste three expensive Kh-59/Kh-69 cruise missiles on a dry cargo ship called Golden Leo. The ship was flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and was literally just carrying grain away from the conflict zone. It wasn't armed, it wasn't a threat, it was just doing regular shipping stuff.

Five people are dead after the missiles hit the ship's superstructure, and several others are still missing. The survivors are being patched up in Odesa hospitals right now. It is just a textbook example of shooting at a non-military target to see what happens.

International laws are clearly just a suggestion for a country that treats civilian grain haulers like legitimate combatants.
