A journalist traded the press room for the trenches — and gave everything

Original version ·

We lost Ruslan Rudukan, a man who documented local history before choosing to defend his country at any cost.

Ruslan Rudukan wasn't just another name in the news; he was one of those people who could handle a tape recorder or a complex newspaper layout with equal ease. For decades, he covered the architecture and secrets of Uman, digging into local history that most people just walked past.

When the full-scale invasion started, his health issues should have kept him in civilian life. But Ruslan refused to stay on the sidelines. He literally fought the system to be allowed to serve, eventually joining the 153rd Mechanized Brigade. In his final months, his social media became a raw diary of life in the trenches, where he finally found a sense of belonging he couldn't find in the city anymore.

A life defined by the truth, cut short by the reality he went to fight.
