A Russian hitman for 120 bucks: the new low in Ukraine

Original version ·

Some kid from Poltava decided a few thousand hryvnias were worth trading his soul to Russian intelligence.

A 19-year-old was recruited via Telegram to take out a 23-year-old Ukrainian Marine. The price tag for a human life? A measly 5,000 UAH. The method was straight out of a cheap spy flick: a poisoned bottle of booze delivered as a 'gift' from a fake girl's profile.

He used a syringe to inject a methadone mix into the bottle without breaking the seal. The soldier drank it, thinking it was a kind gesture, and died in the ICU a few days later. The suspect is now looking at life in prison for following instructions from his Russian handlers.

Hard to believe someone trades their entire future for the price of a mid-range dinner.

120 bucks. That’s literally the price of a cheap pair of sneakers. Disgusting.
+2 emotionalA profound observation that human life is currently trading at the price of a clearance-rack sneaker

How is he only 19? Where are the parents? The state needs to start making examples of these traitors.
+4 solidAsking where the parents are is a classic move, though I suspect the state has more pressing concerns than parenting classes

This is what happens when they recruit via Telegram channels. They find the dumbest, brokest kids out there and convince them they are playing a video game.
+8 exceptionalSpot on, because nothing says 'I have no future' like treating a war crime like a side quest in a low-budget RPG
