Two veteran bomb techs killed clearing Russian mines in Kharkiv
Clearing landmines isn't just brutal grunt work — it is high-stakes science where a single hidden detonator can wipe out decades of elite expertise.
Two of Ukraine's top demining specialists from the National Police, Colonel Maksym Movchan and Lieutenant Colonel Anatoliy Radkovskyi, were killed on duty in de-occupied Kharkiv territory. These weren't rookies handed a detector and a shovel; they were literally running the department's specialized robotic systems division.
Movchan held a PhD in law and came from Vinnytsia; Radkovskyi was from occupied Horlivka. Both had spent over twenty years in uniform, clearing traps across Kyiv, Kherson, and Kharkiv from day one of the full-scale war. Even twenty years of technical mastery and remote-controlled robotic rigs leave zero margin for error against Russian minefields.
Clearing millions of acres of booby-trapped ground means trading irreplaceable human lives just to make the soil safe enough to walk on.
