Neptune Takes a Trip: Six Su-34M Bombers Down in Voronezh

Original version ·

It seems Ukraine just gave a masterclass in why you shouldn't park your expensive toys in Voronezh.

The Ukrainian Navy decided that the local Borisoglebsk airfield was looking a bit too crowded and opted to thin out the herd. Using their Neptune missile system, they managed to take out six Su-34M bombers in one go.

These jets are the ones usually responsible for dropping those nasty guided bombs on the front line, so their sudden and permanent grounding is a massive headache for the Russian air force. The airfield didn't just go quiet; secondary detonations suggested the Neptune really found the good stuff.

Expensive, sophisticated hardware is apparently quite flammable when it encounters a bit of Ukrainian ingenuity. A very productive morning by any metric.
