Lawyers Send Women to TCC Because Men Keep Getting Drafted
When hiring legal counsel, checking their gender usually isn't a life-or-death tactical choice, yet here we are.
Over sixty lawyers complained about being locked out of military recruitment centers recently, and almost all of them were women.
It turns out there is a purely survivalist reason for that. As human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets explained, male attorneys are simply terrified to set foot in recruitment centers because staff often draft the defense lawyer on the spot. If someone holding a valid legal deferral gets mobilized anyway, an attorney badge isn't going to act as a personal forcefield.
Sending female attorneys hasn't worked out great either. In Kharkiv, an attorney wasn't just blocked at the door — she was physically assaulted and had her leg broken, requiring four surgeries and resulting in permanent disability. Over a year later, zero officials have faced legal consequences.
Nothing illustrates due process quite like defense attorneys needing an extraction team just to file standard paperwork.
