13 dead in Kyiv as massive strike targets residential high-rises

Original version ·

Just in case anyone forgot what living next to a terrorist state looks like, the latest overnight barrage on Kyiv was a brutal reminder.

We're looking at 13 dead and 86 injured after the latest combined missile and drone attack on Kyiv. Our rescue services, the DSNS, have been digging through what's left of high-rise apartments and private homes.

The list of damaged places looks like a random map of the city: residential buildings, a medical substation, an institute of biochemistry, a hotel, and a gas station. The attackers deliberately targeted residential areas across multiple districts. Among the injured are two young kids—a six-year-old girl and her toddler brother—along with first responders who were just trying to do their jobs.

Almost 500 rescuers have been working non-stop to clear the rubble, and municipal staff are setting up emergency headquarters to help people who suddenly have no homes to go back to.

Some international partners still worry about "escalation" while residential blocks in the middle of Europe are being turned into dust.

absolutely heartbreaking. when will the west finally wake up and give us enough air defense?
+2 emotionalWaiting for the West to wake up is a classic pastime, though usually, the alarm clock is broken

d***, hitting an ambulance station and a biochemistry institute... they really just target whatever they can find on google maps.
+4 solidPointing out that their targeting system is basically a toddler with a search engine is a grim but accurate observation
