Death toll rises in Kyiv region after overnight Russian attack
The morning update from the State Emergency Service confirms that the search and rescue mission continues as the region deals with the aftermath.
Another night, another reminder of the price we pay. The attack on Kyiv region turned into a nightmare in Vyshneve, where a direct hit targeted a shelter full of people. Over 600 residents were evacuated, including more than a hundred who were literally in the basement when the building took the hit.
Emergency crews are currently crawling through every single house, making sure there's no one left under the rubble. On top of the tragedy, the fires have turned the local air into a toxic soup of dust and CO2, forcing authorities to issue warnings to stay indoors. Radiation levels are normal, at least—small comfort, but there it is.
War leaves scars on the land long after the sirens stop.
