Ballistic wake-up call for Kyiv: fires and broken traffic lights
Our lovely neighbors decided 4 AM was the perfect time to launch ballistic missiles at Kyiv, injuring eight people and proving once again that traffic lights are a threat to their national security.
So, our neighbors decided that 4 AM on a workday is the perfect time to test Kyiv’s air defense. With ballistics, you have about two minutes from the siren to decide if you are running to the corridor or just pulling the blanket over your head.
The missiles hit several districts at once, turning a three-story office building in Solomyanskyi into a bonfire and knocking out windows in nearby houses. In Darnytskyi, they managed to hit the road and blow up a traffic light control box and a transformer. Because nothing says military target quite like automated traffic control.
Eight people got hurt, including an 11-year-old kid. Four of them are in the hospital. Mayor Vitali Klitschko and city official Тимур Ткаченко spent the morning live-blogging the damage, from burning offices to shattered residential blocks.
It is almost impressive how much money they spend on multi-million dollar missiles just to leave a few blocks without traffic lights and ruin a Tuesday morning.
