19 dead in Kyiv as rescuers pull a mother and child from the rubble

Original version ·

Just when the world wants to talk about "peace negotiations," another overnight barrage of Russian missiles and drones reminds everyone in the Ukrainian capital what reality actually looks like.

Rescuers in the Darnytskyi district spent the night digging through what used to be a residential building. They eventually recovered the bodies of a 12-year-old boy and his mother.

Meanwhile, the total number of injured has crawled up to 76 people. Over two dozen remain hospitalized, including two kids who survived the blast but now have to deal with the aftermath.

The city has declared a day of mourning. It means flags are at half-mast and entertainment is paused, but the overall routine remains exactly the same.

No amount of deep concern from international partners seems to stop the next air raid siren.
