Serhiy Koretskyi is one step from becoming Ukraine's PM

Original version ·

Just when we thought the government reshuffle would take weeks of intense drama, the parliamentary committee went ahead and approved the gas boss for the top job. Easy peasy.

Remember how Yulia Svyrydenko and her entire cabinet packed their bags last week? Well, the empty chairs didn't stay cold for long. President Zelenskyy pointed his finger at Serhiy Koretskyi, the guy currently running Naftogaz, and called him the most prepared candidate.

So, the parliamentary committee gathered to vote on this. Out of twenty-two deputies, nineteen shrugged, nodded, and voted in favor. Only three decided to sit on the fence and abstained.

Now, the oil and gas manager is poised to run the entire Ukrainian government. He already spent the morning pitching his grand vision to the ruling party, and the formal presidential decree is already sitting in the Verkhovna Rada, waiting for the final green light.

Moving from managing the national gas supply to managing a country at war is certainly one way to test someone's crisis management skills.
