Oleksandr Kornienko says the Rada is ready to crown Yevhen Khmara

Original version ·

Looks like the parliament is getting ready to make Yevhen Khmara the official head of defense by mid-August.

It seems Oleksandr Kornienko has already decided how the voting will go when the Verkhovna Rada convenes. The plan is to officially confirm Yevhen Khmara as Minister of Defense, moving him from his current acting role into the permanent seat.

Kornienko is leaning heavily on Khmara's track record in the SSU, specifically his time at the Center for Special Operations. He claims the man has definitely earned his stripes. Meanwhile, Ihor Klymenko, who was once rumored to be the pick for the defense ministry, is getting moved to the NSDC instead.

Apparently, being a backup for one top job just qualifies you for an even more cryptic one.

Another week, another reshuffle. Let's hope he actually knows how to run a ministry and not just an intel unit.
