Police Probe 2022 Execution of Four Men in Vysokopillia

Original version ·

Investigators in Kherson are untangling another grim chapter from the early invasion days.

Back in spring 2022, Russian occupation troops lined up and shot four local men aged 25 to 40 on the outskirts of Vysokopillia. In an almost sickening twist of reality, the execution took place on Vyzvolyteliv Street — literally translated as 'Liberators Street'.

Three of the victims still haven't been identified two years on. Local investigators in Kherson Oblast are piecing together testimonies and forensics to name the dead and find out exactly who pulled the trigger.

Justice in wartime moves at an agonizingly slow crawl, but the paper trail doesn't expire.

The fact that it happened on 'Liberators Street' tells you everything about this invasion.
+5 solidA grim observation that manages to be both historically literate and appropriately cynical about the irony of street names
